Measure Z Logo

If you have a project idea that provides a public safety or essential service to our community, consider applying for Measure Z funds. You can apply for Measure Z funding now through Friday, Feb. 17.

Measure Z is a half-cent sales tax applied to most local purchases and was first passed by voters in November 2014 and renewed in 2018. Since then, the Board of Supervisors has approved over $80 million in project funding. Some of the public safety projects that have been funded by the Board of Supervisors include:

  • Establishing the Humboldt County Roadway/Evacuation Route and Firebreak Wildfire Resiliency Project to improve brush and fire hazards along county roadways in addition to enhancing evacuation routes in the Shelter Cove area.
  • Maintaining ambulance service for K’ima:w Medical Center and Southern Trinity Area Rescue (STAR) serving communities in the Hoopa and greater Willow Creek area in addition to maintaining ambulance service for communities along Highway 36.
  • Expansion of the Department of Health & Human Services’ Mobile Intervention & Services Team (MIST), which provides mental health crisis intervention services in the field.
  • Hiring more than 40 Sheriff’s Office personnel, including resident deputies and school resource officers.
  • Maintaining the Adult Protective Services and District Attorney’s Offices’ Elder and Vulnerable Adult Services Team (EVAST) to collaboratively address cases of elder and vulnerable adult abuse.
  • Hiring a student resource officer for local schools in the Eel River Valley and a student resource officer and juvenile diversion officers for local schools in Arcata.

Applications will be accepted until Friday, Feb. 17 at 5 p.m.

If you cannot download the application or budget worksheet you can request a copy by contacting the County Administrative Office at cao@co.humboldt.ca.us or (707) 455-7266. Applications can also be picked up in person at 825 5th Street, Room 112 in Eureka. Please submit your application via email to the above address.
