Humboldt County First District Supervisor Rex Bohn has been appointed by National Association of Counties (NACo) President Mary Jo McGuire to serve as Vice-Chair of NACo’s Rural Action Caucus (RAC) for a 1-year term.
NACo's Rural Action Caucus is the voice for rural counties before Congress and the White House. Since 1997, the Rural Action Caucus (RAC) has represented the nearly 70 percent of rural counties in the U.S., addressing critical federal, state and local issues impacting these unique communities.
“It’s important for Humboldt County to have a seat at the table to hear what other rural counties are doing and try to bring federal benefits back to our area,” said First District Supervisor and Vice-Chair of the Board Rex Bohn. “As a current member of the executive committee, and previous chair of the Rural County Representatives of California, I feel I have a lot to offer NACo’s Rural Action Caucus. I am grateful and excited for the opportunity to serve the people of Humboldt County in this capacity.”
Nearly two-thirds of the nation's 3,069 counties are designated as rural, with a combined population of 60 million. County elected officials from these rural areas are dedicated to solving many critical issues impacting rural life and development. These include infrastructure development, broadband deployment, development of new rural clinics and hospitals, road and bridge construction and maintenance, business development opportunities and many more county responsibilities.
