[ARCHIVED] No-Cost ADA Training for Design Professionals, Building Owners & Property Managers

ADA Training Flyer

In an effort to help local design professionals, plan checkers, inspectors, building owners and other businesses comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the County of Humboldt will be providing a free workshop on this subject in June.

This workshop, led by SZS Consulting, will focus on ADA Title II access compliance requirements, which focuses on providing services, programs and activities to the public by state and local governments. This workshop will help you understand and identify ADA barriers and issues and the actions to take to mitigate against future costs.

Topics of the training will include:

  • How to avoid pitfalls and errors that commonly cause complaints and litigation
  • What are the differences between the ADA Civil Rights Law and the California Building Code?
  • What do I need to understand to ensure that new construction and alterations result in full compliance?
  • If I have not altered my building since 1992, why do I need to make improvements now under the ADA? Isn't my building grandfathered?
  • How do construction tolerances apply to accessible elements?
  • What is the legal definition of an undue financial burden? Technical infeasibility? Structural impracticability?

The workshop will be held on Tuesday, June 5 from 8:30 am to 11 am at the Sequoia Conference Center at 901 Myrtle Ave. in Eureka. If you are interested in attending this free training, please reserve your space by contacting ADA@co.humboldt.ca.us or calling 707-445-7266 no later than June 1
