[ARCHIVED] PG&E power outage afternoon UPDATE

PG&E Power Outage Saturday Afternoon Update

Oct. 26, 2019

PG&E is now advising that the power shut off time has moved to 7 p.m. tonight. Please note, this information is being provided by PG&E and continues to change. This is the latest information we have received from the utility.  Given the changing nature of the weather event, residents are urged to prepare to be without power for several days beginning anytime this evening. The decision to turn off the power, the length of the outage and estimated time of restoral is entirely up to PG&E.

The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office of Emergency Services asks residents to keep the following safety information in mind as they prepare to be without power overnight.

·        Only call 911 if you are experiencing a life-threatening emergency. Keep lines clear for emergency responders.

·        Street lights and traffic signals may not operate after the power goes out. Treat every intersection with a traffic signal as a four-way stop. If you must drive, please proceed with caution and drive slowly.

·        If you encounter a downed power line, do not approach. Leave the area immediately and call 911 to report its location. Downed lines should always be treated as if they are energized.

·        Temperatures are expected to dip into the 30s inland and 40s along the coast overnight. Use caution and be aware of fire danger if using a wood stove or fireplace for home heating. Make sure carbon monoxide detectors are functioning and placed near sleeping areas.

·        Never use a generator or camp stove indoors, and be careful when refueling.

·        Use of candles is discouraged. If necessary, do not leave them unattended even for a moment.

·        Get alerts specific to your location by signing up for Humboldt Alerts at humboldtgov.org/alerts.

Please remember to check on your friends, family and neighbors. We strengthen our community by pulling together.
