[ARCHIVED] Granicus hit by cyber attack, Board agendas unavailable

Granicus, the company that stores and presents the agendas and minutes for the Humboldt County Board of Supervisors, was hit by a cyber attack today and is experiencing system-wide problems. As a result, you may not be able to view Board agendas until Granicus fixes the problem. There is currently no timetable for the return of this service.

The attack, which Granicus says is related to Cyber Monday, was first reported around 1 p.m. The company is currently working to add additional capacity to their infrastructure to help remedy the problem. You can subscribe to receive updates on this issue by visiting Granicus’ site at:

While the County apologizes for interruption in this convenient delivery of information related to business discussed by the Board, the Board agendas are always available at the Clerk of the Board’s Office located in the County Courthouse at 825 5th Street, Room 111, in Eureka. The Board of Supervisors’ next meeting is scheduled to take place tomorrow morning at 9 a.m.

LETTER FROM GRANICUS:

Dear Valued Client,

We experienced performance issues in our production systems today. This outage is caused by a DDOS (Distributed Denial of Service) attack to our DNS vendor. We are not the only organization affected by this global internet attack. All of our services are being affected by this issue and it appears to be intermittent, with some people seeing no issues and others seeing some or all services as being down. Our DNS vendor is working on mitigating the issue with their network provider by adding additional capacity to support the extra volume of traffic from this attack.

Once our vendor has resolved this issue, we will send out further communication to confirm the resolution of this outage. We apologize for this disruption in service and we hope to get this resolved as quickly as possible.

Kind Regards,
Granicus Product Release Team

UPDATE Dec. 1, 10:34 PM

New Incident Status: Monitoring

Granicus' DNS vendor has just come back online and Granicus sites are beginning to be operable again. We are still monitoring the situation.

UPDATE Dec. 2, 12:25 AM

New Incident Status: Resolved

Granicus' DNS provider has resolved the issues causing the DDOS attack and is reporting to us that everything is normal. We have also validated that things are working as expected and have taken additional mitigation steps to help prevent this from occurring again in the event they are attacked.
