[ARCHIVED] Report crop, other damages from recent storm

County of Humboldt - The Home of the Redwoods Seal

A series of storms known as an atmospheric river recently hit Humboldt County resulting in significant flooding of agricultural areas. The Humboldt County Office of Emergency Services (OES) issued a notice to citizens warning that several local rivers may reach and exceed flood stage. Many local roads were closed or damaged as a result of the storm, as well as public and private facilities.

Sheriff William Honsal on Wednesday, Feb. 27, declared a local disaster for this incident, so there may be a direct line to submitting claims for potential funding or reimbursement. In addition, the information gathered may be used for various post-incident reports, future emergency planning and even legislative advocacy efforts. Agricultural producers affected by the flooding may qualify for assistance offered through the United States Department of Agriculture Farm Service Agency and are encouraged to report damages.

If you or your business were affected by recent storms that began on or around Feb. 23, 2019, please report it using the Agricultural Commissioner’s Office online form. You can also call the Agricultural Commissioner’s Office if you have questions at 707-441-5260.

If you experienced damages from the storm that are not related to crop loss or other agricultural impacts, please report damages using the OES online form or call OES at 707-268-2500.
