Humboldt County First District Supervisor Rex Bohn on Wednesday was installed as chair of the Rural County Representatives of California (RCRC). A 35-member county strong body that advocates on behalf of rural counties, RCRC is an important voice when it comes to state and national policies that affect areas like Humboldt.

“There are a lot of challenges facing California’s rural counties this year, and I am honored that my fellow rural county leaders have entrusted me to navigate RCRC’s efforts as Chair,” said Bohn. “I look forward to the opportunity to work with RCRC Board Members and staff on strategies and opportunities that raise the level of awareness of rural communities in Sacramento and Washington, D.C., and advance the policies set forth by the organization.”

Bohn’s appointment puts Humboldt County in leadership positions on two of the state’s most influential associations advocating for counties. Fourth District Supervisor Virginia Bass last year became First Vice President of the California State Association of Counties (CSAC), which represents all of the state’s 58 counties at the state and national levels.

“It’s a real 1-2 punch having Virginia and me in these positions, being able to talk directly to lawmakers in Sacramento and let them know how policies are affecting areas like Humboldt County,” Bohn said. “So many things are changing now that will affect our future forever. I think it’s more important now than ever to make sure our voice is heard, and this is ensuring we have a seat at the table.”

Wednesday’s appointment took place during RCRC’s annual reception in Sacramento. During the reception Tuolumne County Supervisor Randy Hanvelt was installed as First Vice Chair, and Inyo County Supervisor Matt Kingsley was installed as Second Vice Chair. Tehama County Supervisor Bob Williams remains an Officer as Immediate Past Chair. The newly installed 2018 Officers will lead the organization in championing policies on behalf of California’s rural counties.
