The Headwaters Fund has $20,000 available in mini-grants for projects to promote local economic development. The mini-grants are typically $1,000 to $1,500, and support projects and events that spur economic development. The application process is simple, with applicants usually receiving a decision within a few days. Local nonprofits and government entities are encouraged to apply. Private businesses with a project idea may partner with a nonprofit or governmental agency. Awards will be made on an ongoing basis until allocated funds are exhausted. Interested agencies should submit a formal letter of interest and budget. Matching funds are a requirement of eligibility.
Since 2003, the Headwaters Fund has been investing in the local community through loans for business start-up and expansion, and grants for projects that promote economic growth. To date, over $100,000 has been awarded in Headwaters mini-grants. Examples of past mini-grants include support for Humboldt Made Trade Show Handbook, TEDx Eureka, Locally Delicious -Humboldt County Restaurant Week, and “Sky Cams” at the California Redwood Coast – Humboldt County Airport.
