Below is a notice from the Humboldt Bay Harbor, Recreation and Conservation District Commission:
Submissions from persons interested in being considered for appointment to the Humboldt Bay Harbor, Recreation and Conservation District Commission to fill the remainder of the term of Third District Commissioner Mike Wilson will be accepted until November 14, 2016, the District recently announced.
Wilson, who will assume his duties as 3rd District Humboldt County Supervisor in January, 2017, has announced he will resign his position on the Harbor District Commission prior to beginning his term as county supervisor.
The third district of the Harbor Commission is the same geographic area as the Third District for the Humboldt County Board of Supervisors, generally encompassing Arcata, Sunny Brae, Freshwater, Kneeland, Manila, Blue Lake, and surrounding areas. The person appointed will fill the remainder of Wilson's term, which expires December 31, 2017. The election process for the third district term beginning January 2018 will commence with the June 2017 primary election.
The remaining four Harbor District Commissioners will appoint a person to serve the balance of the term following the effective date of Wilson's resignation, as provided by law. The only legal requirement is that the person appointed be a registered voter of the third district. However, the district suggests that persons interested in the appointment include background information concerning
the applicant to assist the commission in its selection process.
Interested applicants should provide a letter of interest and other appropriate biographical information. Submissions should be mailed or delivered to the Harbor District office, 601 Startare Drive, Eureka, 95501, at the Woodley Island Marina or e-mailed to JCrider@humboldtbav.org and must be received by the District no later than 5 p.m. on Monday, November 14, 2016.
According to Harbor District Commission President Patrick Higgins, such information may include education or experience in shipping or maritime trade, engineering, nature resources, the fishing industry, business, government administration, planning, recreation, and similar areas applicable to the Harbor District. The applicant's motivation for applying, his or her vision or ideas
about the future of the Harbor District, and how the applicant's background and experience prepares them to serve would also be helpful to the commission, Higgins said.
The Harbor District promotes the operation of the Port of Humboldt Bay and other economic opportunities such as mariculture in the bay, recreational opportunities and conservation of the bay's natural resources.
