The Humboldt County Planning and Building Department is excited to announce the release of a new, faster online Geographic Information System (GIS) for your desktop computer and mobile device.
The web-based GIS is a computer mapping system designed to display many types of spatial and geographical information. Users can find their properties, learn about their landscape, and create their own maps. By displaying countywide parcels, roads, topography and aerial photography as base layers, the Web GIS provides vital, up-to-date information for Humboldt County residents, businesses and government agencies.
Numerous enhancements to the new version include improved imagery and performance, as well as new measuring, drawing and query tools. Anyone with an internet connection can access the new Web GIS from their computer or mobile device by going directly to http://humboldtgov.org/GIS.
A public Web GIS workshop will be held at the Humboldt County Library Meeting Room, 1313 Third Street in Eureka on Wednesday, Sept. 14, from 6 to 8 pm. Written Web GIS instructions are also available on the county’s website. For further information, please contact Jerry von Dohlen, GIS Analyst, by phone at (707) 268-3776 or by email at jvondohlen@co.humboldt.ca.us.
