Long-term disaster recovery takes time, and one year later, the County of Humboldt, in coordination with the state and many local partners, continues to contribute to earthquake recovery efforts.
To commemorate the recent one year anniversary of the Dec. 20, 2022 earthquakes, an informal gathering will be held on Saturday, Jan. 13 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Rio Dell Community Resource Center, located at 406 Wildwood Ave. in Rio Dell.
Community members are invited to share space with the community, enjoy dinner, build an emergency go bag and sign up to receive emergency alerts. Fun activities for kids will also be provided.
This is a free event open to all ages hosted in partnership with Pay it Forward Humboldt, the Rio Dell Community Resource Center, Rio Dell Volunteer Fire Department, Centro del Pueblo, Habitat for Humanity Yuba/Sutter and the Humboldt Eel River Valley Long Term Recovery Group. This event was made possible with support from the Humboldt Area Foundation and Wild Rivers Community Foundation.
Residents who have been impacted by the earthquakes are encouraged to reach out to the local disaster case management team to inquire about support services and funds, even if repairs to homes have previously been completed. To access or inquire about these services, please call 707-382-5890.
