On June 10, 2022, at about 3:38 a.m., Humboldt County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a residence on the 5000 block of Dows Prairie Road in McKinleyville for the report of a gunshot victim.
Deputies arrived at the residence and located the suspect, 40-year-old Tanaua Marie Bryan, outside of the home. Bryan was taken into custody without incident.
Deputies then contacted a 53-year-old female victim who had sustained gunshot-related injuries. The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment and is expected to recover from her injuries.
During their investigation, deputies learned that the suspect and victim are family members. The suspect reportedly confronted the victim outside the residence and shot her. Deputies found evidence of a round entering the victim’s residence, which was occupied by an adult and a child at the time of the incident.
