On Dec. 2 at about 7 p.m., Humboldt County Sheriff’s on patrol in the area of Central Ave. in McKinleyville conducted a traffic stop for a vehicle’s expired registration, CVC 4000(a).
Deputies asked the driver, Daniel Byrd, age 35 of McKinleyville, for his driver’s license, registration, and proof of vehicle insurance; Byrd was not able to provide anything asked of him. Deputies confirmed that Byrd was previously convicted as a felon and on probation for burglary (PC 459) and domestic violence (PC 273.5).
Byrd was instructed to exit the vehicle to be searched, pursuant to his probation terms. Deputies located several items in the vehicle, including ammunition, a firearm holster, a taser, and a U.S. passport card belonging to someone else.
Byrd was then booked into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility for the following charges:
- Felon in possession of ammunition—PC 30305(a)
- Felon in possession of a taser—PC 22610(a)
- Violation of probation—PC 1203.2(a)
- Expired registration—CVC 4000(a)
- No valid insurance—CVC 16028(a)
