On 08-15-2019, at about 12:35 pm,
the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office received a call for service at the
Humboldt Redwood Company in Scotia. It
was reported that protesters on scene had locked themselves down with devices
at the entrance gate to the mill. It was
further reported that they had dumped hazardous materials in the roadway leading
into the mill. That roadway also drains
into the Eel River.
Deputies responded to the scene and
subsequently arrested one individual, Stanton Wood, age 33, who was booked into
the correctional facility for trespassing, unlawful assembly, and dumping of
hazardous materials. Two other
individuals were issued citations and released from the scene.
Humboldt Redwood Company employees
took actions to contain the hazardous spill and prevent any contamination to
the Eel River watershed.
