On May 17, 2019, at about 3:30 p.m., a Humboldt County Sheriff’s deputy on patrol in the Loleta area observed a vehicle traveling eastbound on Table Bluff Road, unable to maintain its lane.
The deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle near the intersection of Table Bluff Road and Copenhagen Road. The vehicle failed to yield and continued on to Copenhagen Road. During the nearly 9-minute pursuit, the vehicle stopped several times but continued to evade deputies after each stop.
Deputies pursued the vehicle onto Singley Bar Road, where the vehicle came to a final stop. Upon coming to a stop, the driver of the vehicle, 34-year-old Venancio Hernandez-Hernandez, attempted to exit the vehicle. Hernandez-Hernandez was quickly arrested without further incident. Three passengers of the vehicle were also briefly detained and released at the scene.
Hernandez-Hernandez was booked into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility on charges of evading a peace officer and driving on a suspended license.
