On Dec. 23, 2018, at about 8:30 p.m., Humboldt County Sheriff's deputies were dispatched to the Orleans area for the report of a gunshot victim.
A male victim was reportedly riding his bicycle across the Highway 96 Orleans Bridge in Orleans when a white passenger van pulled up behind him. An unknown occupant of the van then shot the victim one time in the lower leg. The van made a u turn and was last seen traveling southbound on Highway 96. The victim was transported to a local hospital and was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. The injuries were consistent with bird shot, commonly used in shotguns. A suspect has not been identified at this time and the investigation is ongoing.
