On Tuesday evening, 04/25/2017, the Eureka Police Department hosted an annual appreciation dinner for the Humboldt County Volunteer organizations at the Elks Lodge. The event was well attended and provided an opportunity for Humboldt County’s “First Responder” organizations to recognize the volunteers that help our agencies achieve the mission and vision we have for the community we serve. A special thanks should be given to Eureka Police Department’s Chief Andy Mills and the Eureka Police Department’s Suzie Owsley for graciously hosting and organizing the event.
The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office recognized three of our agencies volunteers with plaques of appreciation this year. The Sheriff’s Office was honored to publicly acknowledge and thank our Neighborhood Watch Program coordinator Ginger Campbell, our Sheriff’s Citizens on Patrol (SCOP) Captain Bernie Jorgensen, and our Sheriff’s Search and Rescue Posse’s Commander Bryan Raskin.
Ginger Campbell was first introduced to the law enforcement profession by raising funds for the Arcata Police Departments canine program. During this process she became involved in the Neighborhood Watch Programs for both the Arcata Police Department and the Sheriff’s Office. Ginger has started 42 programs for the Sheriff’s Office ranging from 3 house blocks to the towns of Loleta and Shelter Cove. Her selfless dedication to the Neighborhoods of Humboldt County should be commended.
Captain Bernie Jorgensen has been involved with SCOP for the past 16 years. She has been the Captain of SCOP for the past 7 years. Captain Jorgensen grew up in Arcata and has lived in Humboldt County all but the first three years of her life. She is a dedicated “worry wart” who keeps the SCOP program operating in the “black”, year in and year out. In addition to routine patrols and vacation checks of homes, the SCOP volunteers participate in many local events to include parades and traffic control assignments. Captain Jorgensen should be commended for a job well done.
Bryan Raskin has been volunteering for the Sheriff’s Search and Rescue Posse for the past 15 years. He is currently the Posse’s Commander and has held a variety of positions in the Posse over the years, i.e. training lieutenant, certified rescue dog handler, etc. In addition to Bryan’s dedication to the Posse, he is married with 2 children and owns and operates his own business, Mirador Glass Company in McKinleyville. Bryan and his staff respond to many of the search and rescue missions in Humboldt County, whenever and wherever they are needed. Bryan should also be recognized for the commitment he has to the citizens of Humboldt County.
As volunteer after volunteer was recognized with sincere thanks and appreciation from the various agencies, it should not be forgotten that each and every volunteer is supported by an understanding and supportive family who are equally committed to the greater good of the community.
