On Wednesday, March 15, 2017, at 1:00 p.m., members of the Humboldt County Sheriff's Office Gang Resource Intelligence Team (GRIT) conducted Gang Awareness Training for the staff at the Humboldt County Office of Education. The training covered why kids join a gang, local street gangs, gang identifiers and current trends with the local street gangs here in Humboldt County. Sgt. Jason Benge and Corporal Mike Mendiburu, who work at the Humboldt County Correctional Facility, conducted the training. This training was conducted to inform the local community about the gang issues in our area and raise awareness.
