The County of Humboldt is seeking to contract with a Firewise Coordinator to assist the communities of Salmon Creek and Benbow in becoming recognized Firewise® sites. The successful candidate will work closely with County and CAL FIRE staff, local fire department representatives, and residents to fulfill the requirements of the Firewise USA® Program including development of community wildfire risk assessments and action plans that address the risks identified over a multi-year period.
Firewise USA® is a voluntary program that empowers communities to work together to reduce their vulnerability to wildfire losses. There are currently six active Firewise communities located throughout Humboldt County. This position will support the establishment of two more by assisting residents as they collectively identify their wildfire risks and prioritize actions to reduce those risks, while engaging and encouraging neighbors to become active participants in building a safer place to live.
A Request for Proposals is open until January 18, 2022 for this limited-term, contracted position. The position is expected to begin in February 2022 and continue through April 22, 2022.
The goals of this project are reflected in the Wildfire Preparedness Action Plan of the 2019 Humboldt County Community Wildfire Protection Plan. To view the plan and for more information about the position, please visit humboldtgov.org/firesafecouncil.
