The Public Health mobile vaccination team is set to appear at several community events in Eureka at the end of this week in an effort to reach young adults, a sector of the community with a high overall incidence of COVID-19 infection and a low vaccination rate.
On Friday, July 30, the Department of Health & Human Services’ Transitional-Age Youth Division, known familiarly as “TAY,” will host the mobile vaccine clinic at its 433 M Street location. The first 30 people to get vaccinated will receive a $25 Coming Attractions movie voucher that can be used for admission or concessions. TAY staff will be tabling at the vaccination clinic to offer its resources for young people ages 16 to 26, including Independent Living Skills, counseling, employment training and information about its program. The vaccination clinic will be open from 1 to 4 p.m.
On Saturday, July 31, the mobile vaccination clinic will be at Sequoia Park, 3414 W St., for Get Out and Play Day, a full day of free activities all over Eureka including free rides on the Madaket for all ages, an all-ages skateboard competition at Cooper Gulch and a co-ed softball tournament at Kennedy/Hartman Fields. At Sequoia Park, where the vaccination clinic will be located, events include Yoga in the Park, Zumba in the Park and Family Olympics. The vaccination clinic will be open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Walk-ins are welcome at all Public Health clinics, or sign up in advance at MyTurn.ca.gov. The Pfizer vaccine is approved for children as young as 12 years old. Minors must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. The Johnson & Johnson vaccine is authorized for those 18 and older. For more information about the vaccines, consult your medical provider or contact the Joint Information Center at 707-441-5000.
To check availability of these vaccines, as well as Moderna, at local pharmacies, visit vaccines.gov or text a ZIP code to 438829 to find a participating pharmacy nearby. Most pharmacies allow walk-ins.
