Humboldt County Roads and California State Parks are going
to start digging the inlet side of the failed culvert by Saturday November 16,
2019. We will be putting in a one lane closure at the site and will have traffic
signals up by Friday night. This will be a one lane closure, not a full road
closure. We are hoping that we can perform a fix of this culvert by removing
the first 35 feet of pipe that has collapsed, then putting concrete in the bottom
of the remaining 75 feet, adding a new piece of culvert to the first section that
was removed, then installing a liner throughout the entire pipe. If this option
goes as planned, we will only have to keep one lane closed in Whitmore Grove.
If this does not work, we will have to go to Plan B which is a full road
closure for approximately 10 days.
Below is the photo of the PVC Liner that will be installed. This is an example of a before and after photo.
