Humboldt County Roads has received numerous complaints over the last few months regarding the homeless encampments and garbage along Wymore Road in Arcata. Our Roads Crew has gone out several times to clean up trash but with the encampments, it's difficult to keep up with. Humboldt County Roads has contracted through Wahlund Construction to perform the clean up. Signs were posted on Monday, January 28, in front of each encampment advising of 72 hours to vacate. Campers were also advised of assistance available to them through Humboldt County Department of Health and Human Services on Koster Street in Eureka.
Any property picked up will be available for people to reclaim until April 28,2019 at New Directions in McKinleyville. People can call 707-616-1182 to make arrangements for their property. New Directions works with unemployed, homeless people in the community who are in need of positive social interaction and improved life skills. Humboldt County Roads, Wahlund Construction and New Directions is hoping this project will be a positive one for everyone by cleaning up the area and helping those in need.
