NEWS RELEASE

January 11, 2019

Today, 25-year-old Kayla Brown of Hoopa pled guilty to two felonies: sexual penetration of a minor under 16 years old and contact with a minor for sexual offense.  The crimes occurred during June 2014 through January 2015 in Hoopa while the victim was in grammar school.  The guilty plea will result in the defendant being required to register as a sex offender.  District Attorney (DA) Maggie Fleming thanked the victim’s family for their willingness to proceed with trial.  The DA stated, “The resolve of the victim and her family allowed us to achieve a just result in which the defendant’s plea accurately reflects her criminal acts.”
