The County of Humboldt is seeking input from the community on improvements to current waterless toilet regulations. A discussion forum has been scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 17, at Trinidad Town Hall.
The Humboldt County Department of Health & Human Services, Division of Environmental Health (DEH) staff will be present to answer questions about existing regulations. Staff is interested in hearing from those with experience or interest in using, building or studying the use of waterless toilets which include composting toilets, incinerating toilets and pit privies.
The goal of the public forum is to assess the current regulations, their effectiveness, and evaluate the need for improvements to suit current waterless toilet technologies in the interest of public health and the environment.
DEH staff is encouraging community members to read the existing codes relative to these types of toilets and to attend the discussion forum. Codes that apply to composting and incinerating toilets are found in Chapter 5, and those that apply to pit privies are found in Chapter 3 at this link: www.humboldtgov.org/DocumentCenter/View/1261.
Comments and literature references may be submitted anytime by sending an email to ENVHEALTH@co.humboldt.ca.us. Please place “Waterless Toilet” in the subject line.
The meeting will be held from 1:30 to 4 p.m. Trinidad Town Hall is located at 409 Trinity St. in Trinidad.
