Voter’s Choice Act Discussion for Bilingual Voters (Virtual)

The county will soon be transitioning to the Voter’s Choice Act (VCA) elections format. Approved by California lawmakers in 2016, and established by Senate Bill 450, the VCA expands voters’ options for how, when and where they cast their ballots. To ensure all Humboldt County voters are provided with equitable service when the VCA is implemented, the Office of Elections is seeking input from the community regarding best practices and barriers voters who are bilingual or non-English speaking face when casting their ballots.

Come meet new people and play games! You can bring your own game or try out a completely new game. Dandar's Boardgames & Books are coming to present a fun selection of games and show you how to play.

Do you write for fun? Is your head full of stories you want to tell, about people and places and ideas you want to capture in words? If you are a middle school kid who wants to write, come and meet others who feel the same. Bring a friend, it's free! Write stories and share them, bring your book and work on it, and hang out with other writers.

Drop in to play games together! Families are welcome to bring their own board games or play the classics that we have in the Children’s Room, including Pictionary, Scrabble, Life, UNO, chess, checkers, Battleship, and lots more. We also have several decks of cards ready to go.

5:00 PM, Garberville Library, Living with Your Computer (In Person, Drop in!)

Learn to live with your computer, tablet, or cell phone. This drop-in class is geared for seniors, but everyone is welcome. Each person will get attention, so that people who are just starting out (how do I turn this on?) can be helped as well as people who are on another level but have questions (how do I get from here to there?). If you have your own portable computer, please bring it. Otherwise you may use or share a computer supplied by the library.

Quilling is an art form that uses slender strips of paper rolled, pinched, and glued to make a unique picture.

Wednesdays, 10:30 AM, Willow Creek Library Story Hour (in Person)

Story time is a great activity for children. Children who often hear stories read aloud learn how to listen, learn more words and how to use them, and absorb new facts and ideas. In the adventure of story, kids also grow in imagination, problem-solving and creativity.

Ms. Sue and Sunshine the Chicken are back, and can't wait to welcome preschool friends and their caregivers for stories, songs, and shaker egg fun. Masks are optional.

Short-Term Rental Ordinance Public Meeting

The Planning & Building Department has drafted a Short-Term Rental Ordinance and is seeking public input. On Wednesday, June 28 at 6 p.m. Planning & Building Department staff will host a virtual public meeting regarding the draft Short-Term Rental Ordinance. The meeting will feature a presentation of the draft ordinance and attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions and share concerns, ideas, and input. The draft ordinance proposes a permitting process for rental of residential dwelling units for a period of 30 days or fewer, including homes listed on Airbnb and Vrbo. Those who operate these types of short-term rental units in unincorporated Humboldt County and all interested members of the community are encouraged to attend the public meeting.
