Saturday, March 11, 2023

Go beyond the legend and meet the inspiring woman who repeatedly risked her own life and freedom to liberate others from slavery. Harriet Tubman was a conductor of the Underground Railroad, a Civil War scout, nurse and spy, and one of the greatest freedom fighters in our nation’s history. The film is followed by a discussion, moderated by Lorna Bryant, on 'The Legacy of Liberation.'

You are invited to a FREE film screening of

Harriet Tubman

Visions of Freedom

Courage, strength, legacy. Harriet Tubman, Visions of Freedom.,

A panel of local women leaders will discuss the impact of Harriet Tubman and her role in Black Liberation - past, present, and future.

Born in Dorchester County, Maryland, Harriet Tubman escaped north to Philadelphia in 1849, covering more than 100 miles alone. Once there, she became involved in the abolitionist movement and, through the Underground Railroad, guided an estimated 70 enslaved people to freedom. Featuring more than 20 historians and experts and grounded in the most recent scholarship, this film goes beyond the standard narrative to explore what motivated Tubman, including divine inspiration, to become one of the greatest freedom fighters in our nation’s history.
