Resources for People Impacted by the Federal Shutdown

• The County of Humboldt issues Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits for people to access food. The funding comes from the federal government, and is administered by the County. We are working hard to be ready to provide those benefits as soon as we are able to after funding is restored.
• In the meantime, our local food banks are actively working to ensure that people have access to necessary food resources. Food for People and partners such as Family and Community Resource Centers are distributing food to a greater number of people right now. If you are able, donating to one of these food banks or resource centers is a wonderful way to help – they can stretch dollars farther to procure food at reduced rates and get it directly to the people who need it most.
• If you are seeking food for yourself or a loved one, please refer to the food resource list that the County of Humboldt is maintaining and updating.
• For other forms of assistance, including housing, mental health support, and other essential needs, please call 2-1-1 or visit 211Humboldt.org

Humboldt County Airline Service Providers

The County of Humboldt has recently announced multiple new partnerships with airline service providers to expand the list of destinations and airlines serving our community! Beginning in March 2026, Breeze Airways will be providing service from the California Redwood Coast Humboldt County Airport (airport code ACV) to Burbank, California with a transferless connection to Provo, Utah and also to Las Vegas, Nevada. Breeze Airways is a new company for us, and we are thrilled to have them! These flights can be booked already for those eager to make their trip plans. We are also welcoming Alaska Airlines to Humboldt for a new and exciting route to Seattle-Tacoma airport, also from ACV. These daily flights will offer people the opportunity to make connections within the existing robust Alaska Airlines network. We are also pleased to continue our great partnership with United Airlines with ongoing service to Denver (DEN), Los Angeles (LAX), and San Francisco (SFO). Thank you to our aviation and economic development teams for all of their hard work to make this possible!

Recent Highlights from My Work

Attending the opening of the Foster Avenue Solar Project, a solar and battery energy storage installation in the unincorporated greater Arcata area. This project was completed through a collaboration between Redwood Coast Energy Authority (RCEA) and the developer, Renewable America. 

Participating in a meeting with many representatives from the State of California to share about the Redwood Region RISE economic and workforce development regional initiative occurring amongst multiple northern California counties and tribal nations. It was a pleasure to hear about some of the investment in seed funding that the state has made along with how our economic opportunities are being discussed and worked on. 

Performing weddings and vow renewals on Halloween in conjunction with the Clerk-Recorder’s Office was a special treat. I was encouraged to get into the spirit of the season with elegant gothic couture, and I sure did my best! I enjoyed meeting couples from throughout northern California who chose to tie the knot or recommit to their union with a touch of seasonal silliness and a lot of love and sweetness. 

Serving the Community through Boards and Commissions

I currently serve on the following boards/commissions, and would be glad to hear from you with questions or concerns about these specific subjects or areas of service: Humboldt Transit Authority, Redwood Coast Energy Authority, First 5 Humboldt, Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Commission, Humboldt County Behavioral Health Board, Redwood Region Economic Development Commission, and the Samoa Peninsula Enhanced Infrastructure Financing District. I also serve as a board member of the Klamath River Renewal Corporation (the Klamath dam removal non-profit entity) and co-chair of the statewide Coastal Counties regional association within the California State Association of Counties.
