The Planning & Building Department – Long Range Planning Division is looking for homeowners with an accessory dwelling unit (ADU) or tenants who live in one to tell their ADU story. Talk to the Long Range Planning Division and if they use your story, you’ll receive up to $200 for your effort.
What’s an ADU?
ADUs are small second homes built on the same property as the main home. They can be within or attached to the main home (in a converted garage or basement) or built separately. Sometimes ADUs are referred to as backyard cottage units, granny flats or converted garages/basements.
Why LRP Wants to Hear From You
The Long Range Planning Division will be producing free online and print guides to make it easier for people to build ADUs in Humboldt County. Since it is often helpful for those thinking about building an ADU to hear from their neighbors who went through the process, your story will make a big difference!
The Details
If Long Range Planning uses your story, you’ll receive $100 for an interview and photos, or $200 for an interview and video. Those who participate will be interviewed by phone and photographed or recorded on video at their ADU. And as an added plus, you’ll walk away with a set of free professional photographs. Any materials produced will only be used to inspire others to think about building an ADU.
To get to know more about you and your ADU, please fill out this brief survey. If you are a builder or architect, please send us your referrals for people to spotlight. Your answers will be kept confidential.
If you have any questions, contact Keenan Hilton at khilton@co.humboldt.ca.us or 707-268-3722.
