On the morning of 05/03/2015, at approximately 0151 hours, a 911 call was transferred from the California Highway Patrol (CHP) to the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO), regarding a male subject that had been shot while at an encampment along the railroad tracks south of Pound Road in Eureka. HCSO Deputies and Officers from the Eureka Police Department (EPD) responded to investigate, and were assisted in their search by members of the United States Coast Guard (USCG). Personnel from Humboldt Bay Fire (HBF) and City Ambulance were also dispatched to stage in the area until the subject was located.
Upon arrival, Deputies and Officers searched the described area of the greenbelt, and located a 49 year old male subject in a makeshift camp along the railroad tracks. The subject was naked, and had sustained what appeared to be a gunshot wound to the leg. The subject was unable to tell Deputies and Officers how he sustained the wound. The subject was transported to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries, and is currently in surgery.
