April 23, 2021 - 20 New Cases Reported Today

707-441-5000 ; ; Monday-Friday 8am to 5pm

Twenty new cases of COVID-19 were reported in Humboldt County today, bringing the total number of county residents who have tested positive for the virus to 3,717.

After seeing the case rate decline for weeks, Humboldt County is currently experiencing an uptick in cases, many of which are related to one or more superspreader events.

In response to a recent outbreak at Eureka The Pentecostal Church, the Humboldt County Public Health Communicable Disease Response Team was on-site today offering testing to members of the church who may have been exposed.

Humboldt County Health Officer Dr. Ian Hoffman thanked church officials and members for their responsiveness and collaboration with Public Health. “We’re grateful for all they’re doing to protect each other and the community as a whole,” Dr. Hoffman said.

Community residents who think they may have been exposed to someone with COVID-19 can get tested at no cost seven days a week. For a list of testing locations and times, go to, or call 888-634-1123.

Walk-In Appointment Hours to Expand Next Week

Vaccination appointments are available at the Arcata Community Center this weekend, and walk-in hours are scheduled each day from 6 to 7 p.m. Spanish and English speakers are available at every clinic.

All county residents age 16 and older can register, although 16- and 17-year-olds can sign up only for the Pfizer vaccine. Minors must have proof of age and be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

The following clinics and vaccines are available by appointment and for walk-ins.

  • Today — Moderna (18 and older)
  • Saturday — Pfizer (16 and older)
  • Sunday — Moderna and Pfizer (16 and older).

Beginning next week, walk-in vaccine hours will expand to 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Wednesday through Sunday. Scheduling an appointment in advance is encouraged. As of today, only 25% of available first dose COVID-19 vaccine appointments for the week of April 19-25 have been booked or attended. There are still many spaces available in clinics this weekend.

As a result of low vaccine uptake, Humboldt County will receive 4,140 doses of COVID-19 vaccine for next week, including 1,800 Moderna and 2,340 of Pfizer. There will be no Johnson & Johnson due to the pause. Additional clinics will be announced Monday or Tuesday depending on allocation.

Humboldt County Public Health declined 1,000 additional doses of Moderna vaccine. This is the first week the county turned away doses offered by the state due to a lack of demand from the community and providers.
