Due to the ongoing fire emergency near the southern Humboldt County line, the county’s virtual two town hall meetings are being rescheduled to Sept. 29 and Oct. 2. Please see below for more details, including Zoom link info.

The County of Humboldt’s GoHumCo team (office of Economic Development) will host two town hall meetings to discuss and gather feedback for the County’s first Cannabis Marketing Assessment. The virtual meetings will be Sept. 15 29 at 2 p.m. and Sept. 18 Oct. 2 at 8 a.m. Link information is at the bottom of this notice.

Funded by Project Trellis, the county is developing a marketing program for Humboldt County’s legal cannabis industry. The first step was to assess industry needs and other marketing efforts that share qualities with Humboldt’s cannabis industry and have been successful. Earlier this year county staff along with the Humboldt County Growers Alliance partnered with stakeholders to complete an initial marketing assessment, which can be viewed on the county website. The public feedback collected will shape the assessment and ultimately guide the county’s cannabis marketing program.

The regional institutions in the assessment have been developed over many generations and the decisions made by their stakeholders have played a critical role in shaping the long-term social, economic, and environmental character of their respective communities. One major finding of the assessment developed through the case studies was that industry partners worked together to promote the region as a whole, sometimes ahead of their own products, in order to successfully incorporate a regional identity to their products.

As a three-tiered program, Project Trellis is designed to support and strengthen Humboldt’s economic position (during post COVID-19 recovery) and to increase its market share in the cannabis industry. The assessment itself will not direct the work of the marketing firm that eventually is chosen to promote the cannabis industry, but it is intended to serve as a basis or guiding document for those efforts.

When completed, the assessment will be presented to the Board of Supervisors for final approval.
