On August 15, 2020, at about 11:05 p.m. Humboldt County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a residence on the 2300 block of Yale Court, in the county’s jurisdiction of Eureka, for the report of a domestic disturbance with shots fired.
Deputies arrived at the residence and were unable to locate the involved parties. On scene, deputies located evidence of one shot being fired. While contacting neighbors in the area, deputies learned that prior to their arrival a male suspect and two female victims involved in the disturbance had left the residence separately.
Upon further investigation, deputies located the female victims at another residence in Eureka. One of the victims had visible injuries.
The victims told deputies that at about 11 p.m. that evening, one of the victims arrived at the residence on Yale Court to find 35-year-old Ryne Allan Hayse inside a detached shop in the backyard. The victim and Hayse were known to each other prior to this incident.
The victim reportedly confronted Hayse and the two became involved in a verbal argument. The argument then reportedly escalated, with Hayse physically assaulting the victim, brandishing a firearm at her and threatening to kill her.
The second victim reportedly heard the altercation and attempted to intervene. Hayse then reportedly struck the second victim with the firearm. During this assault, the firearm reportedly discharged, with one round striking the residence.
During their investigation, deputies made contact with Hayse over the phone in an attempt to speak with him. After initially speaking with deputies over the phone, Hayse continued to evade deputy contact. On August 16, at about 3:30 p.m., Hayse arrived at the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office Main Station and turned himself in.
Hayse was arrested and booked into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility on charges of assault with a firearm on a person (PC 245(a)(2)), criminal threats (PC 422), grand theft of a firearm (PC 487(d)(2) and inflicting corporal injury on a spouse (PC 273.5(a)).
