Child Support Awareness Month is highlighted each August, and California Child Support Services is reminding parents that Humboldt along with 48 county child support agencies across the state, offers a range of services to assist parents in supporting their children.
A study revealed that many parents who are co-parenting their children from different households are unaware of the support programs available, but help is only a phone call or web site visit away.
North Coast Child Support assists parents who share financial responsibilities, to support their children. Emphasis locally is placed on supporting parents to arrive at a child support order that reflects their capacities, without having to go to court. Alongside this is a referral and support service to help parents find resources for parenting when they are no longer together.
In this time of COVID-19, court closures and subsequent backlogs in hearings means that now is the time for parents to work together to arrive at a child support arrangement that makes sense for their unique circumstances. Managing conflict is imperative to parenting and will save families many months of delays to this process.
"North Coast Child Support recognizes that most parents want to be good parents and see their children through to a happy healthy adulthood," said Director Lisa Dugan. "Many parents face barriers to being the support they would like to be for their kids. That’s why we work so hard to bring parents services that provide tailored help to each unique family unit with parents of diverse backgrounds, income levels, and capacities."
If you need help with co-parenting, the exchange of financial support, we are here to help. We will also refer parents and families to other local resources to ensure their children have the support they need for success.
