With the recent shelter in place directive from Humboldt County Public Health and Governor Gavin Newsom, the Humboldt County Animal Shelter will be closed to the public effective Friday, March 20, 2020. This closure will remain in place until April 9, 2020, or until the order is lifted. Staff will continue to work at the shelter daily to feed and care for the animals.
If your pet is impounded at the shelter during this time, please call the shelter at 707-840-9132 to make pick up arrangements. If you are not able to reach staff, leave a message and your call will be returned. General questions can be directed to the above number as well. Office staff will be at the shelter Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. to take those calls.
The Humboldt County Animal Shelter will be working with our volunteer and rescue partners to continue to provide a level of care for these animals.
The shelter remains committed to adopting animals even during these unprecedented times. All adoptable animals are listed on petharbor.com. Please call the shelter if you are interested in adopting an animal. Staff can send you an adoption application via email to begin the process or you can download an application online at humboldtgov.org/2658/Animal-Shelter. Shelter staff are currently creating a plan for you to view the animal you are interested in and continue the adoption process.
