2:00 PM, Eureka Library's Out of This World SF & F Book Club, 'The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet' by Becky Chambers

Saturday, November 18, 2023

Space Opera lovers breathed a sigh of happiness when Becky Chambers' debut novel hit the shelves. This slice-of-life novel of life on a working spaceship is more about the journey than the destination, focusing on the daily relationships of a mixed crew and the social possibilities of life in a connected universe. Chambers imagines beings, genders, social customs and interspecies interactions in a fresh, playful, and hope-filled work with echoes of Ursula LeGuin, Early CJ Cherryh (think the Chanur series), and possibly even Phyllis Gotlieb.
