The mission of the Humboldt Literacy Project is to provide Humboldt County adults the literacy skills they need to function on the job, in the family, and in the community. A Family Literacy Party with so much free fun for families! Come to the Scotia Lodge for storytelling by Ali Freedlund, Arts & Crafts with the Wonder Wagon from Playhouse Arts, and a dance party and story time with Shoshanna. Plus, kids can pick a free brand-new book to take home!

Free Stories, Crafts, Dance, & Play for Families!


Designed to bring joy, inspiration, and delight to families in Scotia & Rio Dell who have been through so much recently, this is a free event for children and the adults who love them! Kids also get to choose their own free book to keep. 


Storyteller Ali Freedlund 

has lived here oAli Freedlund sits at the base of a tree, surrounded by trillium flowers in bloom.ver 35 years and performs original stories at various local venues including the Storytelling Festival by the Sea, local schools, libraries, benefits, as a TedX presenter, and more. All ages are invited to enjoy stories focused on the natural world of rivers, animals, trees, fish, and birds that are part of what we all share on the North Coast.




Dance & Story with Shoshanna

Shoshanna is aShoshanna sparkles as a fairy princess. Make some magic with her! performing artist, dance teacher, and event designer who has performed and taught nationwide. Locals know that she adds a special magic to any event she is a part of! Wherever people get together to 'make wonderful things happen' in our community, you may find Shoshanna.




Arts & Crafts with the Wonder Wagon

Playhouse Arts brings an arts & crafts studio to you with the Wonder Wagon!The Playhouse Arts Wonder Wagon travels to local special events, elementary school parking lots and community centers to bring arts, crafts, and creative family fun wherever it goes.
