5:30 PM, Garberville Library Book Group, 'Foxhole', by G.K. Mullins (In Person)
Thursday, September 15, 2022
'Foxhole', by George K. Mullins is this month's pick for an interesting discussion. The book centers on this now-local author's memories, feelings and experiences in the military during World War 2. George had an Appalachian childhood in Virginia, then - as so many others of his age - was catapulted straight from farm life into the war. Serving in the 101st Airborne Division, George experienced iconic moments of the war, landing on the beach in Normandy, soaring in on a glider for the liberation of Holland, helping defend Bastogne in the Battle of the Bulge, all the way to Berchtesgaden and the Allied occupation of Germany.

Third Thursday of Each Month, 5:30 PM
George K Mullins, this month's author
George Mullins was 18 when he entered the war, and is now 97. After the war his journey took him to Humboldt, where he went from lumberjack to construction company owner and private pilot to author, with stops at several other local livelihoods along the way. George still lives by the words he always said to his 5 children, 'You have to learn something every day.'
Coming up - October's Book
'Where the Crawdads Sing' by Delia Owens, a coming-of-age, murder mystery novel.
Note - These library in-person book group meetings are not aired on the radio or online. However, the KMUD Radio Book Club discusses the same book about a week later on their show, 5:00 until 6:00 p.m. the last Thursday of each month. That is a call-in show, so people can call in and discuss the current selection on air.
