3:00 PM, Join the Clarke Museum Bookworms to discuss 'An Indian Among Los Indigenas' (Zoom)

Saturday, January 8, 2022

What does it mean to have experienced the effects of colonialism firsthand, and yet to risk becoming a colonizing force in turn? This memoir recounts the thoughts and experiences of a young Karuk volunteer sent to Bolivia with the Peace Corps. Join the Clarke Historical Museum for this book club that focuses on Indigenous literature. The Clarke seeks to engage you with their Nealis Hall Native American collections and to foster awareness of the connected history, present and future of local tribes.

The Clarke Museum Bookworms
with Curator Emily Watkins and the Clarke Historical Museum

'An Indian among los Indígenas'  "upends a canon of travel memoirs that has historically been dominated by white writers. It is a sharp, honest, and unnerving examination of the shadows that colonial history casts over even the most well-intentioned attempts at cross-cultural solidarity. It is also the debut of an exceptionally astute writer with a mastery of deadpan wit." -- Heyday Books
