As partners with the Humboldt County Library, KEET-TV and Word Humboldt invite you to join us for three FREE online workshops, all on Thursday evenings at 6:30 PM. Two of the classes are led by members of Word Humboldt, a local spoken word group that creates an engaging and safe space for people to develop their literacy skills and focus on poetry as a tool for social justice.

Tonight's workshop focuses on Social Justice and Hemingway, and is led by Bay Area poet and educator, Reggie Edmonds. They'll talk about Hemingway's writings, look at how his work is seen today, and lead a group discussion about social justice and poetry that includes creative activities. Bring your writing tools of choice!

'Taking the Hemingway Out of Hemingway'
A Series of 3 Workshops via Zoom

Reggie Edmonds is an African American man with wild dreads & a soft, contemplative expression   Hemingway's face is drawn in words using shades of text.
Poetry, Social Justice,
and the ‘Great American Novelist.’

This series seeks to ignite a love of language and expand creativity.

This workshop is led by Bay Area poet and educator, Reggie Edmondswho is the 2019  Berkeley Poetry Slam Champion and runs both the Rich Oak Alchemy Slam and the Oakland Poetry Slam. They have two self published chapbooks, I’m Too Black For This Shxt (2017) and Sadboi (2018).

Thursday, April 8, 6:30 PM - Open Poetry Reading, with Word Humboldt. Join in to share your own work, either writing you did in these workshops or other original material. It's a great opportunity to network with other writers and gain input into the art of Spoken Word.

A kit full of fun activities and writing prompts is available for free at all Humboldt County Library branches. The kit includes supplies and instruction on activities like blackout poetry, fill-in-the-blank poetry, and DIY magnetic poetry, in order to help writers and poets explore and ignite their creativity.
