As partners with the Humboldt County Library, KEET-TV and Word Humboldt invite you to join us for three FREE online workshops, all on Thursday evenings at 6:30 PM. Two of the classes are led by members of Word Humboldt, a local spoken word group that creates an engaging and safe space for people to develop their literacy skills and focus on poetry as a tool for social justice.

6:30 PM, 'Taking the Hemingway Out of Hemingway', Poetry Writing Workshop with Word Humboldt (Zoom)

Today's workshop focuses on using playful 'Found' and 'Blackout' poetic methods (check out the link for a quick idea of what that means). Create original work, starting with passages by Hemingway and other authors. Prompts are used to offer more inspiration to have fun writing and make it meaningful.

Thursday, April 1, 6:30 PM - Social Justice & Hemingway. This workshop is led by Bay Area poet and educator, Reggie Edmonds. They look at Hemingway's writings, talk about how his work is seen today, and lead a discussion about creating equity and social justice using poetry, with creative activities. Bring your writing tools of choice!


Thursday, April 8, 6:30 PM - Open Poetry Reading, with Word Humboldt. Join in to share your own work, either writing you did in these workshops or other original material. It's a great opportunity to network with other writers and gain input into the art of Spoken Word.

A kit full of fun activities and writing prompts is available for free at all Humboldt County Library branches. The kit includes supplies and instruction on activities like blackout poetry, fill-in-the-blank poetry, and DIY magnetic poetry, in order to help writers and poets explore and ignite their creativity.
