Fountains of Stories Online for Young Children, an Any Time Event

Tuesday, June 9, 2020

AN ANY-TIME EVENT!
Fountains of Online Stories
for Young Children

Best Read Alouds on YouTube (from a teacher's point of view)
What makes a good read-aloud? For young children learning to understand reading, it has clear sound with an emphasis on the reading (we don’t need music or any extra sounds); shows the cover of each book; mentions the title, author, and illustrator of the book (pronounced correctly!); demonstrates proper concepts of print (the pages turn right to left); shows the text of the book while the person is reading, and demonstrates fluent reading. Here are some great examples that offer plenty of fun, too!

Cuentacuentos Beatriz Montero (en YouTube)
Cuentos infantiles para educar y disfrutar.  Poemas y rimas tambien!  Stories in Spanish for young children, to learn and enjoy.  Poems and rhymes too!

Julie Andrews Library
Yes, it's the lovely voice of that Julie Andrews, of The Sound of Music, plus her daughter Emma Hamilton, and sometimes a granddaughter, all reading stories for children.  You can watch and listen online or download these as podcasts and take them along anywhere.

KidLit TV
Diverse, high quality story times from the KidLit TV website, winner of the Parents’ Choice Gold Award, the Norton Juster Award for Devotion to Literacy, and one of the American Library Association’s Great Websites For Kids. Besides the video story times, kids who like to listen to a story while they draw or play might enjoy Kidlit Podcasts.

Sing-Along Story Books
Earworm alert! Barefoot Books offers a selection of their books based on songs, on YouTube.  Sing along to A Hole in the Bottom of the Sea, Dump Truck Disco, If you're Happy & You Know It, The More We Get Together, and more.

Story Time from Space
Real astronauts read picture books from orbit!  One book is featured and the rest scroll through on the top of the screen. These are mostly stories about space and astronauts - or astronaut dogs! Some of the stories are fine for toddlers and others might be better for older kids. Most are in English but at least one book is read in Spanish and one in Japanese.

Storyline Online
Picture books read by members of the Screen Actors Guild.  Enjoy the Case of the Missing Carrot Cake read by Wanda Sykes, Sylvester and the Magic Pebble read by Reid Scott,  Hey, That's My Monster! read by Lily Tomlin, and lots more.

Unite for Literacy Books Read in Different Languages
Choose to hear these stories in English, Spanish, Chinese, Hmong, Arabic, or any one of many other languages. Choose a language and see the many stories to pick from, including both imaginary stories and books about real life, animals, science, and other nonfiction for young children.

100 Picture Books Read Out Loud,
Collected and hosted by Indianapolis Public Library  Scroll down to see the covers of these popular picture books, and click on any to see and hear the read-aloud on YouTube or a similar website.

Stimola Live Stream Author Visits for kids, tweens and teens (also past events on You Tube) Draw with an illustrator or join authors for read-alouds, sing-alongs, baking, crafts, or Q&A about being an author.
