November 7, 2019
6:00 PM - 8:00 PM
Time Details:
Nearly two hours long, this movie is rated PG-13 for discussions of sex and mortality, a scene with the teens in underwear, and some swearing. Parents would go a bit older than 13, and kids say a year younger is OK. There's some disagreement AMong people living with Cystic Fibrosis about this film, about whether its intense romance gives those just learning about the condition the wrong idea (what with all the adolescent angst and pathos) or whether that's redeemed by the truths this romantic movie also tells.

6:00 p.m. Arcata Library Movie, Five Feet Apart (PG-13)

Thursday, November 7, 2019

Based on the novel by Rachel Lippincott, this movie is strong because of its two talented and appealing young stars, Haley Lu Richardson as Stella and Cole Sprouse as Will. Compelling facts about cystic fibrosis (CF) are balanced by Director Justin Baldoni with the bigger issue of how each of us will create meaning in an uncertain world that guarantees loss. Five Feet Apart may deepen your appreciation for each breath you take, for your one and precious life.
