It's computers and dancing! It's drums that talk! It's African traditions all mixed up with modern techie wizardry for a shining evening of little-kid, big-kid learning and fun! Join drummer and educator Pierre Tchetgen in Urban Griots, a STEAM playground for early literacy. The Urban Griots mode of learning blends rhythmic movement with computer media interaction. Thanks to Humboldt Literacy Project, each child in attendance will also receive a free book, new or gently used.

Drumball! Wires and screens bring drum language to a new place.  Here's Pierre Tchetgen playing an African drum.Drumball - touch a pattern on a screen to drum and talk in drum language.

Children preschool age and older find out about Alphariddims, a digital drum language that turns beats on the Drumball into words.

Adults can learn about the potential of drum talk in supporting children's literacy development. Pierre Tchetgen is a doctoral candidate at UC Berkeley's Graduate School of Education and the inventor of the Drumball technology (patent pending). He is also a published poet and a performing/recording artist.
