Summer is at hand! Sign up for this year's Summer Reading Program, 'Reading Takes You Everywhere,' with events, reading fun, snacks and crafts for children all summer. When school lets out for the summer, the Humboldt County Library begins its Summer Reading Club. All children are welcome to join this free program. Children in the club stretch their minds and keep up their reading skills over the summer while having lots of free, genuine fun. Bring children to your library branch whenever it is convenient for you. They can pick out books to read until the next visit. For the club, children may read any books they please – as long as they are library books, any book can count for the Summer Reading Club. Kids will receive a log to note down their reading progress. Turn it in when it's full for a prize!

6:00 p.m. Fortuna Library, Summer Reading Starts with Storyteller Charlene Storr

Wednesday, June 13, 2018

Local storyteller Charlene Storr invites all families to Fortuna Library's Summer Reading kickoff party. Enjoy stories of native people, and sign up for this year's Summer Reading Program. Charlene Storr is a storyteller of Tolowa/Maidu heritage, from California. She is both a traditional and contemporary storyteller who presents stories at festivals, national and state parks, schools, and Native American gatherings. People of all ages love to listen when Charlene opens her bright eyes wide, lifts her hands, and begins a tale. There's something to learn, too!

Charlene Storr has an expressive cheerful face, streaks of grey in her black hair.
