Between 1939 and 1934, movies revealed a world of crime, sex, and shocking behavior that would swiftly be forbidden by hastily organized censorship bodies. Many films ventured into risky topics that, after the code clamped down on filmmakers, weren't revisited until the 1960's. After tonight's showing, you are invited to stay and discuss Shanghai Express under the auspices of the evening's host, Jennifer Fumiko Cahill.

Based on a story by Harry Hervey and hosted by Jennifer Fumiko Cahill. A diverse group of passengers is traveling by express train from Peking to Shanghai. Among them is Captain Doc Harvey, who finds himself reunited with his former lover, now an infamous adventuress who calls herself Shanghai Lily. Desire and deception follow, culminating in a tense hostage situation when the train is hijacked by a Chinese warlord.
