1:00 p.m., Eureka Library, Historical Lecture, the Mattole Valley

Saturday, January 6, 2018

Join Laura Cooskey for a history of the Mattole Valley in pictures. An array of historical photos show the promise and the disappointments of the Mattole Valley to settlers, visitors, and entrepreneurs. The valley is a land of extremes, with extraordinary beauty on one side and fickle natural forces on the other. And there are the people, spiritual or nature-loving idealists seeking peace and a place to build a heaven on Earth, along with seekers of worldly wealth, ready to exploit the resources for money and prestige. See photos depicting all these, and their economic and cultural endeavors through the years.
