6:30 p.m. Eureka Library Classic Film, The Gay Divorcee

Tuesday, January 9, 2018

The Gay Divorcee is based on the Broadway musical by Dwight Taylor, and hosted by Bob Doran. Ginger pairs with Fred as a top-billed dancing couple for the first time! Mimi Glossop (Ginger Rogers) wants a divorce, and mistakes a dancer with a crush on her (Fred Astaire) for the man her aunt has hired to pose as her lover and provide the legal grounds. A farcical plot ensues, full of dance and song, incidentally including some from the young Betty Grable. Stars Fred Astaire, Ginger Rogers, Alice Brady, and Edward Everett Horton. Directed by Mark Sandrich. After the film, you are invited to stay for a discussion under the auspices of the evening's host, Bob Doran.
