Moonstruck is 1 hour and 42 minutes long; rated PG, 1987. All ages are welcome, but the movie was written for adults. Common Sense Media's reviewer says it's better for ages 13 and up. It features ups and downs of adult romantic relationships, including cheating and lying, social drinking, sexy adult behavior (without actual nudity) and angry argument upon occasion. Couched in humor, these may not detract from the fun for grownups but could do so for kids.

5:00 - 7:00 PM, Garberville Library, Valentine's Movie Night, Moonstruck

Wednesday, February 14, 2024

A romantic comedy starring Cher and Nicolas Cage, Moonstruck won scads of awards and is praised for its originality, hilarity, and heart. Cher is 37, a widow in a family of hotheaded, passionate New York Italians. She's given up on love and has just agreed to marry a man she likes but in no way adores, when she's absolutely swept off her feet by a new guy. The full moon shines into a family full of goofy, offbeat amore (plus guilty Catholic contrition for it), who struggle on in hopes of figuring out the human heart... and True Love steals the show.

Valentine Movie Night at Garberville Library, featuring

MOONSTRUCK

The original film poster for Moonstruck shows Cher dancing in front of the New York skyline.

Starring Cher, Nicholas Cage

And a great cast, including Vincent Gardenia, Olympia Dukakis, and Danny Aiello

Reviews of the movie tend to make it sound like a madcap ethnic comedy, and that it is. But there is something more here, a certain bittersweet yearning that comes across as ineffably romantic, and a certain magical quality.

- Roger Ebert
