Month of November, Garberville Library Art Lobby, 'Human Beings Being Human', Photographs by Doug Fir.
Sunday, November 5, 2023
Black and white photographs by Doug Fir capture the lights and shadows of scenes caught by this photographer's keen eye. He says 'These images reveal a variety of every-day human activities. They range over 40 years and depict people in 13 different countries…. If there is an inspiration for this assembly of photographs, it is ‘The Family of Man’, an exhibit and book that appeared in the mid-50’s based on the evolution of our development from infant to old age. I have arranged the current display of 25 photos similarly.'

The photos in this show are of people Fir knows and of strangers going about their daily business. Fir is conscious that photos like some of these can be considered exploitative, depending on many factors. He intends this show as a respectful and appreciative depiction of our common humanity.
