Winter Shelter - Emergency Warming Centers

Raindrops on a chilly evening, seen from inside a window and under a roof.

Winter Emergency Warming Centers

These centers open in the winter when very cold or wet weather is predicted, as long as they can find enough volunteers and have enough staff to help. All except Redway Baptist are evening shelters, that open when the forecast predicts

  •     Cold at or below 34 degrees (33 degrees for Eureka shelter)
  •     Cold at or below 36 degrees when rain is expected (33 for Eureka)
  •     Wind speeds more than 30 mph (40 mph for Eureka) or winds that create a wind chill of 33 degrees
  •     One inch or more of rain between 4:00 PM and 4:00 AM, and / or multiple days of rain.

You can also call 211 Humboldt (dial 2-1-1) to ask about warming centers.
